Our training leverages the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program with two main goals. First, it focuses on teaching water safety, helping participants learn how to keep themselves and others safe in, on, and around the water. Second, it emphasizes teaching swimming skills, providing the knowledge and techniques needed to instruct people of all ages and abilities to swim effectively.
By combining theory with practical experience, our program helps develop competent instructors who can guide students toward safer and stronger swimming skills.
The program includes 30 hours of classroom and practical training designed to teach instructional theory while providing active hands-on practice. Participants must be at least 16 years old, able to swim 25 yards using all six major strokes — freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke — and able to tread water for two minutes. The course highlights include understanding hydrodynamic principles, developing basic aquatic skills, instruction on swimming strokes, learning techniques for entries, starts, and turns, as well as diving fundamentals.
Participants must attend all sessions and demonstrate competency in each skill and activity. Upon successful completion, participants earn an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
