It’s Never Too Late To Learn To Swim: A Look Into Adult Swim Lessons
While much attention is given to teaching children to swim, many adults have yet to develop this vital skill. For some, feelings of embarrassment, fear, or uncertainty can make signing up for lessons intimidating. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone—and it’s never too late to start.

Becoming Comfortable in the Water

Entering a pool as an adult without knowing how to swim can be intimidating. Our first goal is to help you feel safe and comfortable in the water. Beginners start by walking in chest-deep water to get a sense of balance. Once comfortable, students gradually learn to put their face in the water starting with blowing bubbles through the nose while staying safely grounded on the pool floor under the guidance of a trained instructor.

Learning to Kick and Back-Float

After gaining comfort in the water, students begin learning basic movement skills such as kicking and floating. Many adults start by holding onto the pool edge to experiment with leg movements and body positioning.

Learning to float is a crucial milestone. Instructors support your hips and guide you through proper breathing and relaxation techniques, helping your body naturally stay afloat. This is later combined with gentle kicking to experience forward movement in the water.

Prone Floating and Adding Arm Motionsa

Once you are comfortable with floating, the next step is mastering the prone position floating on your stomach; the foundation for most swim strokes. Instructors pair arm motions with head movement to teach proper breathing and streamline your body in the water.
