Premier Aquatic Services Receives Updated Red Cross Emergency Cardiovascular Care Guidelines
The American Red Cross is a global leader in setting standards for Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and first aid. At Premier Aquatic Services, these guidelines form the foundation of our health and safety trainings, ensuring our team delivers care based on the most accurate and current science available.

How the Red Cross Develops New First Aid Guidelines

Every five years, the American Red Cross collaborates with national and international health organizations to:

  • Evaluate 22 core first aid topics
  • Review the latest scientific research
  • Analyze global best practices
  • Establish consensus-based recommendations

These updated guidelines become the standard for first aid training across the world—shaping how instructors, lifeguards, healthcare providers, and lay responders administer emergency care.

Partnership With the American Heart Association

This cycle, the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association (AHA) jointly released updated curriculum recommendations. Premier Aquatic Services will begin rolling out the new content beginning January 31, 2016, ensuring our team is aligned with the latest life-saving protocols.

Key Updates to First Aid Recommendations

Among the most important updates included in the latest guidelines are:

1. Improved Treatment of Severe Bleeding

New science-backed techniques for controlling life-threatening bleeding.

2. Enhanced Stroke Recognition Tools

Updated recommendations for identifying early signs of stroke quickly and accurately.

3. Updated Recovery Position

Refined guidance for safely positioning an unresponsive but breathing individual.

4. Revised Anaphylaxis Protocols

Improved steps for recognizing and responding to severe allergic reactions.

5. Treatment for Hypoglycemia in Diabetics

Clearer instructions for assisting individuals experiencing low blood sugar.

These updates ensure responders can act quickly, confidently, and effectively during emergencies.
